Black Keys on success: 'Never feel like you’re entitled to it – because then you turn into a prick'

NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD

via glooce

The Black Keys have said they never feel entitled to success, no matter how hard they worked for it.

Speaking to Radio.com, drummer Patrick Carney said: "We’ve definitely worked hard, but a lot of bands have worked just as hard. You just have to feel really lucky. Never feel like you’re entitled to it – because then you just sort of turn into a prick."

The duo picked up five Grammy nominations this year, with singer and guitarist Dan Auerbach also picking up a solo nod for Producer of the Year. The band are also set to perform at the Grammys ceremony for the first time, which will take place in LA on February 11.

"It just so happens that in the last two or so years, a lot of things that we were never even on our radar happened, like getting gold and platinum records, winning Grammys, selling out MSG [Madison Square Garden], headlining festivals, " Carney said. "All that stuff, we never even thought was possible. When it happens, it’s really kind of surreal. We’re really grateful that it’s happened, but we don’t really understand how it happened or why it happened."

Black Keys are set to release their eighth album, the follow-up to 2011's 'El Camino' in late 2013.

Psy feels that he had enough of "Gangnam Style"

NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD

via glooce

Psy confessed that he was getting sick of “Gangnam Style“.

Psy was recently in Singapore and during a press conference, he was reported to have said, “There’s a lot of requests for me to dance the horse dance, so I’m honestly getting fed up with it. To be honest, I’m getting a bit sick of when I’m asked to teach people the ‘horse dance’. But I’m going to continue with my job.”

His confessions had roused controversy because of his harsh words. However, he quickly explained himself, saying, “I’ve never said that I was disgusted or fed up with it. I was just joking that it was tiring for me to get lesson requests all the time, but that it was part of my job.” He explained that the words he’d used were “I get tired ” and “I get sick of it“, but the translations had made the words into much harsher words.

Leona Lewis: Calvin Harris replaced me with Rihanna on We Found Love

NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD

via glooce

Leona Lewis has revealed she was the first person to record vocals for We Found Love, only to see Calvin Harris give the track to Rihanna.

It proved to be a smash hit on both sides of the Atlantic, cementing the Bajan singer's position among the music world's biggest stars and making Harris one of the most in-demand producers in the industry.

Despite the success of the track, the X Factor winner believes her version is better than RiRi's.
Lewis told the Daily Star: 'I worked with Calvin and we recorded We Found Love. But he went touring with Rihanna and she ended up releasing it.

'I didn't commit to it because I wanted Trouble to be my [next] single so I think that was another reason they went with Rihanna.
'It was the same version and production but mine's better.
'

Lewis still has the tapes, but fans shouldn't expect to find the song appearing online in the near future.
'I'd never leak it. That's so unprofessional,' she said.

'It was a bit annoying to see how big a hit it was around the world but if I'd released it maybe it wouldn't have done as well.'
Lewis's third studio album Glassheart, which features Trouble, is out tomorrow and she will be hoping it follows Spirit and Echo in topping the charts.

Dave Grohl hints at Foo Fighters hiatus

NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD

via Glooce

Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl has delivered a clear indication that the band may be gone for a long time.

During the band's epic set at the massive Global Citizen Festival in New York's Central Park on Saturday (September 30), Grohl told the 60,000 crowd in attendance that "this is it", reports Billboard.

Before playing 'Learn To Fly', the group's fourth song of the night, Grohl said: "Without making a big deal out of it, we
don't have any shows after this. This is it, man. Honestly I don't know when we're gonna do it again…and this is the perfect place to do it."

However, fans of the band will take comfort as, at the end of a blistering set packed with crowd-pleasing anthems such as 'My Hero', 'Times Like These', 'All My Life' and 'Best Of You' and set-closer 'Everlong', Grohl told the audience: "I don't know when, but we'll see you again."

Previously, at this year's Reading Festival, Grohl told the crowd that the band were playing their "last show for a long time", as they headlined the final night of the festival.

The announcement came on the night Grohl and The Black Key's Dan Auerbach joined Neil Young on stage at a free concert in New York – you can watch a video of the performance below.

The concert was scheduled around a meeting of the United Nations General Assembly in New York next month and organisers used an innovative approach to ticket distribution. Any fans wanting a free ticket had to sign up to globalcitizen.org and earn points by watching videos about poverty, malaria, child mortality and other global problems.

Organisers said more than 71,000 people had signed up to the website, resulting in over 3.5million page views. It is reported 60,000 fans were given tickets to the free event in New York's Central Park.

Mumford and Sons: 'We don't want to be as big as Oasis'

      NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD

      via Glooce

Mumford and Sons have said they don't want to be as big as Oasis.

The band, who stormed straight into the Number One slot in this week's Official UK Album Chart with their second album 'Babel', its sales of 159,000 copies last week making it 2012's fastest-selling album, according to the Official Charts Company.

Speaking to NME about the band's increasing stature, multi-instrumentalist Ted Dwane said: "We don't want to be as big as Oasis! I think we’re bigger than we ever wanted to be. I don’t think we want to get any bigger now."

Mumford and Sons have also just announced a mammoth UK and Irish tour, which will see them play some of their biggest headline shows to date, including London's O2 Arena.

Speaking about their growing gig schedule, Dwane said: "We want to deserve the place that we've got to and be good to the people who've been good to us. We're interested in travelling and sharing the music with as many people as possible - there are some places where 'Sigh No More' has done quite well that we haven’t actually been yet, like Japan - but I couldn't imagine it getting any bigger really. Then again, I said that after we sold out Shepherd’s Bush Empire so who knows."

Dwane also revealed the band have little interest in living a celebrity lifestyle, preferring the calm of the country to A-list parties. He explained: "Pretty much all of our dreams sit around the countryside and having a small little bit of land to do something with. I think when that desire takes over our desires to travel and play gigs, that's probably where we'll end up. [Celebrity] holds no interest for us."

Linkin Park become the first rock band to pass one billion hits on YouTube

        NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD

        via glooce

Linkin Park have become the first rock band to achieve over one billion hits on YouTube.

The nu-metallers have scored over one billion hits on their YouTube channel LinkinParkTV, with their 2009 single 'New Divide', which acted as the lead-off single to the Transformers: Revenge Of The Fallen soundtrack scoring 131 million views alone.

Red Hot Chili Peppers and Green Day are the next biggest rock bands on YouTube, with 327 million and 245 million views respectively on their channels.

Lady Gaga became the first artist to reach one billion views on YouTube in 2010, but has bow been overtaken by Justin Bieber, whose channel has been viewed a staggering 2.8 billion times. Rihanna's channel has also overtaken Gaga's in recent months.

Linkin Park released their new album 'Living Things' on June 25 this summer. The album is the fifth full-length effort of the band's career and the follow-up to 2010's 'A Thousand Suns'. It was produced by Rick Rubin.

Speaking to NME about 'Living Things', co-frontman Mike Shinoda denied reports that the band were set to return to the nu-metal sound of their early records, but did say they were more in touch with their roots.

Asked if the record was more guitar-heavy than their recent albums, Shinoda replied: "That's actually been misinterpreted. What we've actually said is that the record gets back to our roots and it's captured a feeling that we haven't gone after in many years. I think that's gone misconstrued as a return to heavy guitars. There are guitars on the record of course though."

Then asked if this meant the album continued in the vein of their more experimental fourth album 'A Thousand Suns', Shinoda said: "I'll say it like this, with 'Minutes To Midnight' and even more so with 'A Thousand Suns', we were making an effort to get away from the sound of the first two records. The reason for that was that we felt if we made a third record that sounded that way, we'd be pigeonholed into doing that forever. Everybody just gravitated towards the stuff that sounded different and, as we got into 'A Thousand Suns', it got even more different."

Sinead O’Connor records song to promote depression awareness

          VIA GLOOCE

Sinead O’Connor has been busy and in addition to running a household and getting her kids back to school, she has confirmed several notable appearances and recordings to create awareness for those struggling withdepression. On August 30, 2012, O’Connor confirmed on her official Twitter account that she finished recording two songs for a special holiday album for Aware.

O’Connor tweeted, “Massive fun yesterday at RTE recording 2 songs for John Murray show Christmas Album for Aware. Massive kudos to RTE for the vibe.. U rock .”

Aware describes itself as a voluntary organization that seeks to create public awareness as well as personal support for those dealing with issues such as depression, bipolar, or anxiety-related disorders. The Irish based organization utilizes a variety of methods for providing help to those dealing with depression and other mood disorders, including using social media networks for online support groups.

O’Connor has made past personal pleas to those struggling with depression and thoughts of suicide to reach out for help. The Grammy award-winning singer has made the offer for those feeling overcome by life’s pressures, weights, and struggles to reach out to her personally. It is clear that O’Connor cares greatly about the well-being of others and uses her voice to help remove the stigma many associate with depression and other mood disorders.

Speaking about the songs she performed, O’Connor explained that she was meant to record one song but performed two. She stated she worked with Danny O’Reilly from the Irish rock, indie band “The Coronas. The songs recorded include the Christmas carol “Once in Royal David’s City” and “When a Child is Born.” The album will be released in November and the proceeds will go to Aware.

Mel C gives Little Mix a stamp of approval

Little Mix are on course to hit the chart hot spot this weekend as their latest single, Wings is set to score poll position. (they already did ^_^)

But in case that (and the fact Perrie Edwards is dating Zayn Malik) isn't enough to make them celebrate the latest comments from Mel C certainly will. When speaking to Magic 105.4 the singer said: "It's tough for girls and young women [in music] and I'd like to see more positive role models - I think Little Mix have the potential to do this." Wowzers, the X Factor winners must be chuffed — they've regularly cited The Spice Girls as their idols.

Mel was pretty loose lipped during the interview, talking about what's lacking in the music industry and she believes there's a gap in the market for a girl group with lots of personality. Mel added: "There have been a few girl bands that have been and gone over the years, but I think young strong female role models are what are missing."

Pet Shop Boys: 'Pop music is very ego-driven these days'

          NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD

          VIA GLOOCE

Pet Shop Boys have branded modern pop music "very ego-driven".

The electro duo, Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe, send up the self-obsessed approach of today's chart stars in 'Ego Music', a track from their new album 'Elysium'. The song features tongue-in-cheek lyrics such as "I am my own demographic, what does that say about me?" and "In a sea of negativity, I am statue of liberty, that's why people love me".

When asked whether the song was inspired by Lady Gaga, Tennant told Attitude: "It's not specifically about Lady Gaga, it's about the modern pop star. Pop music is very ego-driven these days. The modern pop lyric is like a diary almost. In other words, people don't imagine, they just say what it is... A lot of lines [in the song] are direct quotes from what people say in interviews. 'I am my own demographic' is a direct quote."

Tennant also claimed that today's pop artists are only able to present their thoughts in a very literal fashion. He added: "If you look at the lyrics that Boy George wrote in Culture Club, or even Adam Ant and Gary Numan - 'Are Friends Electric?' - and compare that, or 'Karma Chameleon' with a contemporary pop song, they don't have the artistry or the imagination or the sense of metaphor. It's like it hasn't even occurred to anyone to have that."

Soundgarden confirm their comeback album will be released in November

          NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD

          via glooce

Soundgarden have confirmed that their long-awaited comeback studio album will be released in November.

The grunge veterans, who split up in 1996, last released an album in that same year and have been working on its follow-up since they reunited in 2010.

Speaking to Rolling Stone about their new album, guitarist Kim Thayil promised that the band's as yet untitled new LP will be "little weird". He also confirmed a release date of November 12 in the UK and November 13 in the US for the record.

Asked about the album, Thayil said: "It re-establishes that we still rock, we're still heavy, and we're still a little weird." He also confirmed that tracks titled 'Blood On The Valley Floor' and 'A Thousand Days Before' will appear on the record. Speaking about the latter, Thayil described it as "a little Indian thing and some chicken-pickin. We call it 'country and eastern.'"

Earlier this year, Soundgarden singer Chris Cornell told NME that the band's follow-up to 1996's 'Down On The Upside' would "pick up where they left off".

He said of this: "We have an album coming out in the fall. It's kind of hard to describe, it's sort of picking up where we left off. There's a lot of different feels on the album. We're a band where every single member contributes music so that makes it very diverse. It's a very rich album with a lot of different moods to it."

He continued: "I'm looking forward to putting out a whole album, where you get a collection of songs. We're an album-orientated band, so I look forward to getting into long-form listening. That seems to have disappeared over the last 10 years, people seem to know be more into one song at a time."

One Direction fanzine's Caroline Flack article sparks sexism row

          NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD

          via Glooce

One Direction fanzine has been criticised after it featured a "voodoo doll" of TV presenter Caroline Flack who dated one of the band's members, Harry Styles.

One Direction & Friends dubbed Flack, who presents ITV2's The X Factor spinoff, The Xtra Factor, an "old woman" and "foul mistress" who spends her time reading hate mail and looks like a goat.

The US magazine featured a picture of Flack with pins sticking out of her, highlighting her so-called "crows' feet" and "dirty blonde dye job".

It criticised the 32-year-old for dating Styles, who is 18, saying "date boys your age, not your shoe size" and added: "Note: zero engagement rings. Because no one wants to be with her."

Irish TV and radio presenter Conor Behan said on Twitter: "This article for One Direction fans slating Caroline Flack is hideously sexist and has gone viral for obvious reasons."

Others used Twitter to describe it as "pretty disgusting and immature" and "astoundingly horrible". Another added: "Where THIS is deemed appropriate in a fan magazine aimed at young female One Direction fans."

The One Direction magazine, published by Topix Media Lab, is described on iTunes as the "greatest magazine dedicated to the greatest band in the world".

New York-based Topix Media says it manufactures "best in class mass market consumer magazines".

Its titles also include Celebrity Astrology, Reality Stars – Where Are They Now? and A Tribute to TV's Greatest Judges.

Its website says it has a team "comprised of the most talented editors, writers and designers in the magazine industry".

The One Direction article, published earlier this year, began: "Never before have 1D fans united in greater numbers than to share their 'feelings' for Caroline Flack, the old woman who dated Harry Styles."

"She was the host of England's The X Factor where 1D got their break. But today she spends her time reading hate mail. So to help you, here's voodoo doodoo Caroline."

The X Factor returns to ITV1 on Saturday, with Flack due to appear at a launch event for the show on Thursday.

A spokeswoman for One Direction said the magazine was not an official band magazine.

Topix Media had not responded to a request for comment at the time of publication.

Laura Bates, founder of the Everyday Sexism Project which highlighted the article on Twitter, said: "It is hugely irresponsible to print things like this in a magazine which is aimed at young women who are extremely vulnerable to the influence of the media.

"It reinforces hugely damaging gender stereotypes and the idea that it is socially acceptable for women to be judged purely on the basis of their looks, that it is absolutely disgusting if you dare to have a wrinkle.

"It also reinforces the idea that women should prioritise men and boys above all else and particularly their relationships with each other and their own self-esteem."

She added: "It also utterly ignores Harry Styles' participation in the relationship. On a wider level this is already a huge problem in the treatment of high-profile relationships, constantly focusing the blame on the woman and abusing people on social media."

MUSIC NEWS- Six comebacks the world needs right now

          NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD

          via Glooce

The Chinese zodiac got it wrong -- 2012 is not the Year of the Dragon, it's the Year of the Comeback.

Granted, the music scene seldom lacks artists trying to claw back to the toppermost of the poppermost. But lately, there are so many on the comeback trail it needs a passing lane.

The most recent offenders, of course, are The Spice Girls. For those who missed it, Ginger, Scary, Dopey, Curly and Tinky-Winky emerged from their Austin Powers freeze-drying chambers to ask us what we really really want for the umpteen millionth time at the Olympics closing ceremonies (what I really really wanted? To see those cabs they were riding explode).

The Spice cadets are hardly unique, sadly. We've already seen comebacks this year by everyone from Neil Young and Crazy Horse to The Tea Party, Stone Roses and Refused. And there's plenty more due this fall, thanks to new albums from No Doubt, Alanis Morissette, Nelly Furtado, Ben Folds Five, Aerosmith, Soundgarden, Platinum Blonde and others.

As usual, though, the artists you'd actually like to hear from again never seem to show up. Here are six comebacks that really would spice up our life:

          ABBA

Last Heard: Dancing off into the sunset after 1981's The Visitors, their own personal musical Waterloo.

Why We Need Them: To add some melody to modern EDM, which often displays all the musicality of a malfunctioning dial-up modem.

Key to Success: Fitting into their old costumes.

Likelihood: Poor. In 2000, they famously turned down a $1 billion to tour. So unless Bill Gates or Warren Buffet is upping that ante, we're SOL.

          David Bowie

Last Heard: Ziggy ditched fame and embraced his golden years after his Reality album in 2003.

Why We Need Him: Because he's David Freaking Bowie -- and last time we checked, no one has even come close to replacing him.

Key to Success: Just show up and sing, dude. That's all we ask.

Likelihood: Poor. Bowie is rumoured to have battled health issues since going into seclusion/retirement/whatever. So don't hold your breath for the return of the thin white duke.

          Justin Timberlake

Last Heard: Making with the freak-freak on 2006's FutureSex/LoveSounds -- unless you count SNL digital shorts like D--- in a Box.

Why We Need Him: It's time for some XY-chromosome posters to counterbalance the estrogen wave of RiRi, Katy, Carly Rae and Bieber.

Key to Success: Three words -- Bring. Sexy. Back.

Likelihood: Fair. As recently as last week, JT denied he was working on a "crazy" new album. So you know he totes is.

          OutKast

Last Heard: On the eclectic and inconsistent Idlewild soundtrack back in 2006 -- though Big Boi and Andre 3000 have touched base on a cut or two since.

Why We Need Them: Because neither one of these codependent geniuses seems able to close successfully on his own.

Key to Success: Whatever the heck they were on when they made masterpieces like Stankonia and Speakerboxx/The Love Below.

Likelihood: Unknown. Neither seems especially opposed to the idea -- or particularly enthused about it.

          Triumph

Last Heard: Plunging over the Edge of Excess in 1993 -- though Rik Emmett, Mike Levine and Gil Moore are on good terms.

Why We Need Them: To lay some CanCon power-trio might on the line against all those aging American rockers.

Key to Success: Levine's moustache. Oh, and enough pyro to scare Rammstein.

Likelihood: Good. They reunited at the Sweden Rock Festival in 2008 (the CD/DVD is out Aug. 28).

          Fugazi

Last Heard: Settling things after The Argument in 2001.

Why We Need Them: To save punk rock from being diluted and sold to Hot Topic once and for all.

Key to Success: Reconnecting with the passion and intelligence that fuelled post-hardcore manifestos like Repeater and Red Medicine.

Likelihood: Possible. Though it sure won't be for the money -- the Washington punks were famous for their $5 tickets and $10 albums.

          NEWS -CINEMA-MUSIC-CELEBRITY-WORLD

          via glooce

If you (like me!) were coming of age in the '90s, just as important as your Z.Cavs, Wigwam socks, and baby tees was your Alanis Morissette Jagged Little Pill CD. From You Can’t Do That on Television through to her 17-year music career, complete with Grammys, a Golden Globe nom, and Juno awards galore, Alanis rocks. In the four years since her last album, she's gotten married, given birth to her son, and written and recorded her latest album Havoc and Bright Lights, out August 28. And today, I have the pleasure of bringing you her brand-new song “Havoc,” which shows off a softer side of Alanis. Introspective, thoughtful, and unwavering, she says “'Havoc' refers to the challenges and consequences of taking responsibility and recovering from different addictions.” Listen here while you read on about all her latest obsessions!

My current obsessions are: Hope Gillerman essential oils. Rag and Bone jeans. Grenache red wine.
The movie I know every word to is: Grease
The album I listen to non-stop is: Eric Hutchinson and Gotye
The first concert I ever went to was: Jane Siberry when I was 10 years old
The book I am obsessed with is: Diamond in Your Pocket by Gangaji
My most perfect meal is: Quinoa, Kale, Beans, Garlic Tahini, Sprouts. With hot sauce on the side.
My most perfect cocktail is: A dirty martini, light on the dirty. Or any martini at the Duke hotel in London
The website I am obsessed with is: innerbonding.com and hsperson.com
The vacation spots I am obsessed with are: Fiji, Maldives, Big Sur

The next time I have time to myself, I am going to: Putter my face off... and arrange all my perfumes, burn incense, sit in the hot tub, and pray
My craziest tour moment was: While singing for the Pope at an end-world-debt event, I was busting my bandmate's chops for singing in an opera voice while we were both using side-by-side porta potties, only to walk out and see that it was Andrea Bocelli (!!!)
My current girl crush is: Charlotte Gainsbourg
The first celeb I was ever obsessed with was: Ralph Macchio
My hidden talent is: Interior design, hair cutting, jewelry designing, manicure giving, make-up application, an informal but well-educated therapist!
My favorite memory from You Can't Do That On Television: Vanessa Lindores forgiving me for commenting on her blouse, which was so inconsiderate on my part. She was always so kind to me and my overly-precocious over-steppings.
